James Robert Gaston

WATER VALLEY—James Robert Gaston, died November 17, 2018, in Baptist Memorial  Hospital—North Mississippi at Oxford.

  Visitation was held Friday, November 23 from 4-6 p.m. in Serenity Daniels Funeral Home at Water Valley. The funeral service was held Saturday, November 24, at 2 p.m. in Everdale M.B. Church at Water Valley, with Elder Larry Lewis, Sr. officiating. Burial was in Oak Ridge Cemetery at Water Valley.

 Born April 29, 1943, James Robert was a son of the late Claude Gaston and Ms. Zerelda Gaston. He was the second of ten children. He was a hard worker and an expert in dozer operation.

He leaves his devoted wife, Annie Eva Gaston; four sons, Bobby Wayne Gaston of Riverdale, Ga., John Earl Gaston of Midland, Georgia, Christopher Michael Gaston of Courtland, and Jimmy Dale Gaston of Water Valley; four daughters, Areatha Ann Johnson, Sandra Denise Gaston, Marie Antonette Gaston, and Jacqueline Nicole Gaston, all of Water Valley;  his mother, Ms. Zerelda Gaston of Booneville; thee brothers, Elder Leon Gaston of Southaven, Charles Gaston of Detroit, Michigan, and Horwad Gaston of Booneville; two sisters, Claudia Young of Booneville and Eva Mae Lewis of Yazoo City; 21 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a son, James Russell Gaston, three brothers, and one sister.

Barbara Ann Melton

PARIS—Barbara Ann Melton, 73, passed away Wednesday, November 21, 2018, in her residence.

Born March 22, 1945 in Water Valley, she was a daughter of the late Morris Nathan Babb and Flora Ivylene Wright Babb. Barbara worked in the healthcare industry as a medical records administrator. She had previously worked for Calhoun County Hospital, Lafayette Hospital, Baptist Healthcare, Laguna Medical Systems, and Parkview Medical Center. 

She was a graduate of Taylor High School, Class of 1962, and Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri. She was a member of Delay Baptist Church, Daughters of American Revolution, and Loosa Schoona Chapter.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Amy Sandefer, a brother, John L. Babb, and a granddaughter, Kimberly Melton.

Survivors include her husband, Riley Eddie Melton, Sr., whom she married March 22, 1963, of Paris; a son, Riley Eddie Melton, Jr. (Amy) of Huntsville, Ala.; a granddaughter, Megan Melton Young (Hunter) of Paris; and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held Friday, November 23, from 5-8 p.m. in Parker Memorial Funeral Home at Bruce. The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. in the funeral home on Saturday, November 24, with Bro. Blaine Davis officiating. 

Burial followed in the Paris Cemetery with Danny Allen, Joe Babb, John Babb, James Jones, Chris Melton, Corey Melton, and Jason Sandefer, as pallbearers.
