Willie L. Carvan


OAKLAND—Willie L. Carvan, age 82, passed away August 3, 2018, in Baptist Memorial  Hospital—North Mississippi at Oxford. 

The funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Sunday, August 5, in the Martin Willingham Memorial Chapel of Wells Funeral Home in Batesville, with visitation beginning at 1 p.m., prior to the service. Interment followed in the Chapel Hill Cemetery.

Born April 17, 1936, Willie was a son of the late Ava Lillian Phillips and Gerard Walters Carvan of Enid. During Willie’s lifetime he worked as an inspector for MDOT and served with the Mississippi National Guard. He was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include his wife, Katherine Doubleday Carvan of Oakland; two children, Vicky Carvan Thomas (Don) of Grenada, and Rickey Carvan (Benita) of Oakland; a sister, Pat McGregory of Enid; his brother, Kenneth Carvan of Enid; five grandchildren, Christy Tribble (Josh), Les Thomas, Rickey Lyle Carvan, April Joyce Long, and Amanda Nacole Carvan; nine great-grandchildren and one on the way.


Sherrie Annette Floyd


BIG CREEK—Sherrie Annette Floyd, 45, of Big Creek, passed away Thursday, August 2, 2018, in the North Mississippi Medical Center at Tupelo.

She was born August 23, 1972, in Memphis. Sherrie was a 1990 graduate of Grenada High School and attended Holmes Community College. She had previously worked at ADP and in the home health field.

The funeral service was held at 4 p.m. Saturday, August 4, in McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service with Rev. James Melton officiating. Interment followed in Wayside Cemetery at Scobey, with Gary Barkley, Randy Barkley, Phillip Floyd, Colby Hipp, Cody Pollan, and Curt Pollan as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Matthew Barkley and Russell Barkley. The family received friends from 2 p.m. until service time Saturday in the funeral home. 

Survivors include two daughters, Ashley Floyd of Calhoun City and Samantha Turner (Will) of Calhoun City; one son, Justin Floyd (Kelsey) of Vardaman; her father, Gene Pollan of Grenada; three sisters, Donna Winders of Tillatoba, Terry Floyd of Duck Hill, and Cindy Knight of Smyrna, Tenn.; five grandchildren,Nelson Floyd, Latham Floyd, Alyssa Turner, Braylyn Floyd and Lyle Turner; and her finance, Billy Martin of Big Creek.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Margaret Barkley Pollan.


Pam Ann McMinn Meek


CHARLESTON—Pam Ann McMinn Meek, age 67, of Charleston passed away Wednesday, August 1, 2018, in DeSoto Baptist Hospital at Southaven.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Pam’s greatest joy was spending time with her son and her grandchildren.

Pam was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Lela Mae McMinn, and a daughter, Katrina Cox.

Survivors include her son, Trey Meek of Atlanta, Georgia; two grandchildren, Joseph Cox and Anna Jade Cox of Charleston; one sister, Judy Whitten of Water Valley; two brothers, Ray McMinn (Joy) of Strugis, and Clay McMinn of Water Valley; and three nieces.

Memorial service arrangements are pending.
