Kenneth Jason Lyons

OAKLAND—Kenneth Jason Lyons, age 37, passed away at his home in Oakland, on June 24, 2018.

Born January 29, 1981, in Jackson County, he was a son of David and Dianne Bennett Lyons. Jason was a pipe-fitter by trade. He loved music and the outdoors, fishing, cooking crawfish, and sports, which included a fondness for Mississippi State. Family was also very important to Jason, as was his dog, “Kaci.”

Visitation was held Friday, June 29, from two until four o’clock in Oakland Baptist Church. The funeral service immediately followed visitation, with Bro. Jimmy Hood officiating. Interment was in the Oakland Cemetery. Seven Oaks Funeral Home of Water Valley was in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his parents, David and Dianne Bennett Lyons; four brothers, Kody Lyons of Oakland, Brian Lyons of Vancleave, Wesley Lyons (Leslie) of Ocean Springs, and Luke Roberts (Amanda) of Oakland; three nieces, Sadie Roberts, Beth Lyons, and Emma Roberts; four nephews, Dalton Lyons, Klay Roberts, Tucker Roberts and Jack Roberts; as well as best friends, Hank Tanner, Bo Spence,, and Danny Spence.

Jason was preceded in death by a nephew, Taylor Lyons.

Ronnie Smith

OXFORD—Ronnie Smith, 61, passed away Friday, June 22, 2018, in Baptist Memorial Hospital at Memphis.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 7, at 3 p.m. in Pine Flat Church (40 CR 422, Oxford).  Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Paw Paw, Mich., Mr. Smith spent most of  his life as a truck driver and a carpenter. He was fascinated with old cars and he was an avid outdoorsman, as well as a fisherman. He loved to be near the water and to be out on the boat with his son. But above all else he adored his grandchildren.

Mr. Smith is survived by his son, Josh Smith (Julie) of Oxford; three granddaughters, Jasmine Smith, Jenna Smith, and Jordyn Smith, all of Oxford; and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins, all of Paw Paw.


Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, Shirley Bishop and Norman Smith.


Ophelia Ann Stone

BANNER—Ophelia Ann Stone, age 83, of Banner died July 1, 2018, in Baptist Memorial Hospital—North Mississippi at Oxford.

Born July 29, 1934, in Paris, Mrs. Stone was a daughter of the late Robert Marshall and Lottie Mae Brasher. She worked at Rice-Stix Manufacturing Company in Water Valley while in high school, until her  marriage to Luther F. Stone of Yalobusha County in 1941. Later Ophelia worked for Kroger Company in Memphis as an accountant until retiring to their farm in Calhoun County.

Visitation will be held from five until seven o’clock p.m. Wednesday, July 4, in Seven Oaks Funeral Home at Water Valley. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 5, in the Henry Chapel of the funeral home. Burial will be in the Paris Cemetery.

Survivors include two daughters, Yvonne Ware of Germantown, Tenn. and Michele Stone of Southaven; two sons, Thomas Stone of DeSoto County and Timothy Stone of Sarah; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and her brother, Ernest Brasher of Drasco, Ark.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, William Robert and James Brasher; and one step-sister, Audrey Davis Johnson.
