Richard Earl Goodwin


WATER VALLEY—Richard Earl “Ricky” Goodwin, age 68, died March 21, 2018, in Yalobusha County Nursing Home at Water Valley.

Born August 8, 1949, in Water Valley, Ricky was a son of the  late J. B. and Annette Rushing Goodwin. He was a builder and a contractor and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Ricky was a member of Woodland Hills Baptist Church, where he sang in the choir and served as Sunday School Director.

Visitation began at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 24, in Seven Oaks Funeral Home, with services following at 11 a.m. in the Henry Chapel of the funeral  home. Bro. Lynn Jones officiated the service. Burial was in Pine Crest Cemetery in Yalobusha County.

  Ricky is survived by two sons, Jason Goodwin (Ashleigh) of Puckett and Randy Goodwin of Water Valley; one brother, Jimmie Goodwin (Kay) of Water Valley; and two grandchildren, Anna Chamblee Goodwin and Leighton Goodwin.


Pamela Langham Hatfield


WATER VALLEY—Pamela Langham “Nana” Hatfield, 67,  passed peacefully Monday, April 2, 2018, at her home in Wafer Valley.

Visitation was held Thursday, April 5, from 1-3 p.m. in Coleman Funeral Home. The funeral service followed immediately at 3 p.m., also in the funeral home, with Bro. Ray Stonestreet officiating. 

  Mrs. Hatfield, born in Longtown October 13, 1950, was a daughter of the late James “Book” Langham and Pauline Nelson Langham. She married her best friend, Wayne Hatfield, on July 12, 1991. Mrs. Hatfield enjoyed spending time with her family and entertaining for the holidays. She was extremely passionate about the outdoors, particularly camping and planting flowers. Her favorite flowers were roses of all color. Mrs. Hatfield was described as the most amazing listener, and she was the best friend a person could ever ask for. She touched their life and was loved by everyone she came in contact with.

Mrs. Hatfield leaves her husband, Wayne Hatfield of Water Valley; two daughters, Gayle Plaisance (Hickman) and Melissa Jennings (Junior Camp), both of Water Valley; one son, Kevin Hatfield (Tania) of Oxford; four granddaughters, Courtney Patton (Jarrett) of Courtland, Kaitlin Weldon (Steven) of Winona, Morgan Hatfield of Oxford, and Gabby Plaisance of Kenner, La.; four grandsons, Joshua Butler (Morgan) of Sherrills Ford, N.C., Braxton Hatfield of Water Valley, Gavin Hatfield of Oxford, and Hickman Plaisance of Kenner; three great-grandsons; two brothers, Jerry Langham (Gloria) of San Diego, Calif. and William “Wilbo” Langham  of Oxford; three sisters, Paulette Palmertree (her twin) of Water Valley, Patricia Rushing and Norma Blanton, both of Oxford; and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hatfield was preceded in death by a son, Todd Hatfield; one Sister, Jeanette Harris; two bothers, James Michael “Mike” Langham and Thomas “Tommy” Langham.

Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice of the American Lung Association or the American Diabetes Association.


Mary Ann Perkins Huckaby


OXFORD—Mary Ann Perkins Huckaby, age 78, of Oxford died Friday, April 6, in Baptist Memorial Hospital at Oxford, with her family by her side.

  Born June 29, 1939, in Lafayette County, Mrs. Huckaby was a daughter of the late Ed Ray Perkins and Annie Mae Maple Perkins. Her husband was the late James William Huckaby. She worked at Emerson Electric and also at Holley Carburetor. She enjoyed crocheting and going to auctions. Mary Ann was a wonderful gardener and spent her summers canning vegetables for her family, but her real passion was fishing.

Survivors include two sons, Bobby Huckaby (Shelia) of Oxford and Jimmy Huckaby (Todd Crawford) of Cookeville, Tenn.; a sister, Brenda Hale (James) of Water Valley; one brother, John Perkins (Judy), also of Water Valley; three grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 8, in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks Funeral Home with Bro. Freddie Buchanan officiating. Visitation was held one hour prior to the service and burial was in Serepta Cemetery in Calhoun County.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mary Ann was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers.
