Beaches Will Close At Lakes

VICKSBURG – Swimming areas at some of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers lakes in northern Mississippi will be closing soon. Arkabutla, Sardis, Enid, and Grenada lakes have begun drawing down water levels as part of their normal flood control operations.

Swimming areas at these lakes will be unusable due to cooler season temperatures and lower water levels. These areas typically open each spring and remain open during the summer recreational season. Closures at Enid Lake include Hickory Ridge, Persimmon Hill, Plum Point, and Long Branch swimming areas will be October 1 unless water levels make the areas unusable prior to that date. Chickasaw Hill is closed already.

The primary mission of the Mississippi lakes is to provide flood risk reduction for 3,025 square miles in north Mississippi, however there are more than 365,000 acres of land and water available for the public to enjoy.
