WATER VALLEY – Yalo-busha Health Service’s (YHS) 122-bed nursing home has again received a top rating from the Centers For Medicare and Medicaid (CMS). YHS Administrator Terry Varner reported the facility earned a Five-Star overall rating on the latest report from CMS, which incorporates data reported through Dec. 31. This marks the second time the nursing home has received the coveted Five-Star rating, with the first a year ago.

“Receiving this five star rating makes me tremendously proud of our facility and especially our staff,” Varner told the Herald. “I see firsthand everyone’s hard work and dedication as they work together towards this common goal of creating a top-rated nursing” Varner said.

The rating is based on health inspections, staffing and quality of care at the nursing home, as evaluated by a team of nurses and a building inspection. Just as in last year’s Five-Star rating, the facility earned five stars in the Quality Measures,  which pushed the facility to an overall Five-Star rating. The facility received four stars on the health inspection, staffing and RN staffing, but the quality rating carries more weight.

Few nursing homes in the country receive the Five-Star top rating, typically around 10 percent.

“ It’s just so rewarding to see all of our hard work being acknowledged and its an affirmation of what we have known all along: our community has one of the best nursing homes, not just in our area, but nationwide. And that’s something that we as a community can take pride in,” Varner added.
