The Water Valley Chamber of Commerce donated a grand for the 50K in 50 Days fundraiser as the clock ticks toward the October 16 deadline to raise $50,000 to update classroom technology at Davidson Elementary School and the Water Valley High School.

The technology punch list includes 33 laptops and 19 desktops at a cost of $31,250. Also on the list are 15 HoverCams at a cost of about $1,200 each. The HoverCams allow the user to project images on a screen in the classroom so that the teacher can continue to engage students while presenting lesson materials.

To help reach the goal Cayce Washington of Valley Tool has donated $5,000 to go into a raffle drawing. The tickets cost $20 each or six for $100 and participants will have a chance to win one of three cash prizes totaling $5,000. The first place winner will receive $2,000 cash and two lucky ticket holders will receive a $1,500 cash prize.

“That’s three chances per ticket,” Hill reported. Tickets are available at Valley Tool, the Chamber of Commerce, Mechanics Bank, Midtown Auto Parts or from Randy Goodwin at the Water Valley School District office or from Taylor Trusty at the hospital.

The drawing will be held at halftime of the final home game this season on October 16, exactly 50 days from the fundraiser kickoff on Aug. 28.

“Please join us in this effort and 100 percent of this money will be put towards this campaign,” Hill added.

Donors may also make a tax-deductible donation to the 50K in 50 Days fund by seeing Washington at Valley Tool, Goodwin at the school district office or Hill at Mechanics Bank.

Much of the equipment has already been ordered by the school district and hitting the goal is vital.
