List Swells To 29 Candidates Running For County Positions

WATER VALLEY – Six new candidates have qualified at presstime Tuesday, bringing the total number of candidates for county offices to 29.
    Two of the new candidates – Luther W. Coleman and Luther G. Folson, Sr. – qualified to run for District 2 Supervisor, making this the most heavily contested race with four candidates on the list and a month remaining to qualify. The deadline is Feb. 27 at 5 p.m. Both men qualified as democrats.
    Larry C. Tritt qualified to run for District 1 Constable, a position he currently holds after supervisors appointed him to the job following a vacancy created with the resignation of Brent Anderson. Tritt qualified as a Democrat.
    Lezelrick “Pac-Rac” Hodge qualified for coroner as a democrat.
    Daniel M. Martin qualified for County Attorney, setting up rematch from four years ago when he ran unsuccessfully against Gail B. Barton. Martin qualified as an independent.
    Scotty “Scrap Man” Aldridge qualified for District 1 Supervisor as a Democrat. Aldridge operates the scrap yard on Hwy. 32 in Water Valley.
    The complete list of candidates submitting qualifying papers at press time Tuesday include:
• Chancery Court Clerk – Amy Fernandez McMinn
• Circuit Court Clerk – Daryl G. Burney
• Constable, District 1 – Bennie (Ben) Box, Ralph Horton and Larry C. Tritt.
• Constable, District 2 – Randy Simmons
• Coroner – Ronnie Stark and Lezelrick “Pac-Rac” Hodges
• County Prosecutor – Gail B. Barton and Daniel M. Martin
• Justice Court Judge, District 1 – Janet Ross Caulder and Gary Lloyd Tippit, Sr.
• Justice Court Judge, District 2 – R.S. “Steve” Riley
• Sheriff – Luther Gene Folson Jr., William “Lance” Humphreys and William Tyler Wortham III
• Supervisor District 1 – Mickell L. Dunn (R) and Scotty “Scrap Man” Aldridge
• Supervisor District 2  – Jason C. Sharp, Fred E. White, Luther W. Coleman and Luther G. Folson, Sr.
• Supervisor District 3 – John Lee McMinn, Jr.
• Supervisor District 4 – Timothy A. Booker, Sr., Otha Coffey and George W. Suggs
• Supervisor District 5 – Gaylon Gray and Andrew L. Wilks
• Tax Assessor/Collector – Linda Rae Shuffield
